Day Seventeen - Yhyakh

We will spend the entire day at Us Khatyng celebrating Yhyakh. Expect countless opportunity to engage in ritual, including the opening ritual which will have thousands of participants. Other activities will include ohuokha, Sakha circle dances to draw the energy of the sun into the body; recitation of Olonkho, the Sakha oral epic, which contains the history, mythology, wisdom, and values of the Sakha people; byrpakh (fermented cow’s milk) & kymys (fermented mare’s milk competitions); performances of traditional music from various indigenous cultures around Siberia & Central Asia; blacksmithing demonstrations; display of horses & livestock; and late night world beats dance party.

We’ll have experts join us throughout the day, educating us on the practices we’re engaging in, and allowing us to deepen our understanding and connection.

Accommodations: camping, shared tents. pit toilets.

Meals Included: breakfast.

Included Activities: trip to Yhyakh, all guided visits and interpretive experiences while there.

Special Information: Many traditional craftspeople come to sell their wares at Tuymaada Yhyakh, so this is an excellent place for shopping. Bring cash, as credit card readers may not work here.

Remember to drink lots of water. You can always go back to the tent to rest, as we will be doing periodically throughout the day. Yhyakh is a safe & joyous place, but there’s a lot going on and it can be overwhelming.
